This clock scene would be featured when the chorus says 'Wake up' as if to say that as soon as he wakes up he's in the viscous cycle of depression and alcohol again.
The first clock we filmed:
This was the first clock we tried to film however it didn't work because it didn't have a second hand which would be the main feature so that you can visually see time passing by. We carried on filming the clock for an hour so that we could test speeding it up so that you can see the hands moving. This wasn't ideal, however, it was worth trying. This clock was also unsuccessful because it had a school plaque on show, making it quite unprofessional and the colours not what we was aiming for as we want an unsettling atmosphere to be displayed.
Cally went home and looked at some clocks that we could possibly use and then messaged our group where we could make a decision on the one we wanted together. We preferred the silver clock as the dark lighting would react well to the white face and the silver frame. This clock is a lot manlier and would suit the situation and footage surrounding it therefore this would be our second and final shoot for the clock.
The first shot we tried was unsuccessful as the lighting wasn't bright enough which meant the clock wasn't standing out and creating the right tone and mood for the surrounding footage.
This lighting was created using a torch in complete darkness; we turned off all the lights in the corridor and hung the clock in a dark corner, we then shone a torch on the clock to illuminate the time passing. This footage was filmed for a minute at 12:00 which would then be sped up.
We tried another technique which meant us slightly moving the clock so that it moved back and forth which was successful because it looked very daunting, the movement could be the effect of drunkenness as this kind of effect is linked to how people see things under the influence of alcohol. This technique is successful as the shadow and contrast in lighting is visually successful as it appears quite haunting and dangerous which is the tone throughout our video as everything is quite dark and depressing.
