Original back of the CD

This was our original idea for the back of the digipack as we wanted to use roses, often associated with love but also are known for being used at funerals when throwing them on the coffin. In order to adapt our research we decided to have the flower gold to symbolize wealth, but black roses behind to symbolize loss. After discussing as a group we decided to add a bottle into our original idea as alcohol is a large part of the  message in our video and in order for our video to look professional we have to keep a consistency between the album, single (music video) and poster. In order for the bottle and rose to fit together we felt that the rose could be growing from inside the bottle, relating the alcoholism to his loss of love.

This is our final design, the making of this is shown in another blog and you can see here that we incorporated our original idea as it still uses the rose and the same position we had planned. The added bottle makes sure it relates to our theme and the message of our music video which therefore matches our product as a whole.

Our chosen songs:

Swimming Pools
Poetic Justice
Art of Peer Pressure
Wicked Games
Monster
Survival
Devil May Cry
Echoes of Silence
Disturbia
The Party after the Party.

We chose these songs as some of them are by Kendrick Lamar and the others are by linked artists such as The Weekend and link to the message of our video.
Peer Pressure links to the reason he is drinking as our music video includes a text from his friend asking him to bring drink. Monster links to what he is turning into, survival links to the ambiguous use of Lily and the mental and physical state of Connor after his depression and alcohol abuse is clear. Echoes of silence is quite a depressive title which links to our tone and mood and links to where in the video we have his conscience talking to him.

How we completed the look for the back of the CD cover

This is the barcode that we used.

We used the clone stamp tool to remove some of the numbers and replace them with another in order to change it into a bar code that doesn't exist due to copyright.

The copyright information:

We chose to use the information featured on Kendrick Lamar's album as the information is therefore correct, we changed the font and colour in order to fit it to our theme and this keeps the look professional.

The Producers Information:

The executive producers information was gathered from the internet as we used Kendrick Lamar's real producers to make it more realistic and professional. We used the same font and colours that we have used throughout to incorporate each feature in order for them to compliment each other. This production was successful as the colours stand out well against the dark background.

The Record labels

We incorporated the real logos for the record labels as this would make it more realistic and highlight the extensive research we undertook for our final product. We placed them differently on our own product compared to our research as we placed them over the producers information rather than the record labels information as we changed the position of these things to ensure we wasn't copying the design of the real product.

The dotted line to signify the folds:

We added the dotted lines to add the text to which would include the name of our album, artist, record label, and CD number this adds a successful visual feature which is common on most CD's.

First of all we added the title of our album using the same font as it will be on the actual front of the CD. This then had the artists name next to it in the same font as it will be on the front of the CD. We achieved this by saving the text's font into one of our layers and inserting it onto our album.

We then added the record label 'Top Dawg' as this name fitted with our R&B genre. We then added the number of the CD to make it look professional.
